The Bauchi State Government is to secure a five-year extension of its Primary Health Care Memorandum of Understanding with implementing partners before the year ends.

The current ten-year PHC Memorandum of Understanding between the state government and its partners is due to expire, prompting the move for an extension.

Executive Chairman, Bauchi State Primary Health Care Board, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, disclosed this while reviewing PHC activities during the Bi-Annual Media Engagement held in Bauchi.

He said Bauchi was the only one among the ten PHC-MoU states to pay its ₦872 million counterpart fund in February this year.

Dr Mohammed noted that the payment reflected Governor Bala Mohammed’s political will to provide quality health care services for the people of the state.

According to him, MoU partners including UNICEF, Gates Foundation and Aliko Dangote Foundation visited Bauchi last week for an assessment of PHC activities.

He said the partners expressed satisfaction with the progress made over the years and commended the state for fulfilling all PHC-MoU requirements.

The Executive Chairman reiterated the state’s commitment to utilise the Federal Government’s Sectors Wide Approach (SWAp), Maternal Neonatal Reduction Innovation and Initiatives (MAMII) and In Between Round Activities (IBRA) programmes to improve maternal and child health indices.

The engagement, attended by broadcast, print and online reporters, also featured a paper presentation on vaccine storage and transportation by the State Coordinator, Logistics
Management Coordinating Unit, Muhammad Salisu.
