Education in northern Nigeria has been identified as a sector facing daunting challenges that requires urgent and collective attention for meaningful transformation and sustainable development.
The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Mahmood Yayale Ahmed, raised the concern during a memorial symposium in honour of late Malam YM Baba, held in Bauchi.
He highlighted issues affecting education sector in the region to include limited access to schools, poor enrolment, inadequate infrastructure, insufficient resources, and persistent security challenges hindering teaching and learning.
Also speaking, the Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Umar Faruq Kabir, said the event was organised to recognise the exemplary leadership, integrity, and immense contributions of the late Malam YM Baba in the education sector.
Governor Bala Muhammad, represented by the Head of Civil Service, Muhammad Sani Umar, disclosed the plans are under way to rename the Wailo NYSC permanent orientation camp after late Malam YM Baba for his educational contributions.
The symposium attracted traditional leaders, families, associates, and former students of the late educationist, with the Emirs of Bauchi, Dass, Jama’are, and Wase affirming his enduring legacy of service.
