Electorates in the Northern region have been advised to institute an Educational benchmark for those seeking political offices to ensure effective representation especially in the aspect of Educational and economic support.
A Lecturer with the Faculty of Management Technology ATBU Bauchi, Professor Bala Suleiman Dalhat made the call while presenting a Paper at the launch of the 2025/26 Statewide Enrolment Drive Campaign at Kirfi LGA.
Professor Bala Dalhat said for years, people especially in the north have been sending the wrong representatives to both the State and National Assembly, and called for improved representation by voting for lawmakers with vast knowledge to push for better things for the people.
The Academic who argued that no society can outgrow its level of education, expressed worry that even though Kirfi has produced professors and accomplished technocrats, there are currently over 200 thousand Out of School Children.
He appealed to well-to-do individuals at the grassroots to support the education of orphans and vulnerable to guarantee their future and end the harmful tradition which denies the female child a chance to education.
In another Paper titled; Why the need for the Enrolment Drive Campaign, Hajiya Jummai Bappa said even with the reduction in Out of School Children, the figure is disturbing.
Hajiya Jummai Bappa, a board member of the Savannah Institute for Sustainable Development believes that with the new education framework in the state, the problem will be surmounted before the end of the 2030 target.
In a swift response, Alhaji Lawal Muhammad, District Head of Kirfi directed the immediate constitution of committees with him as Chairman at the local and ward levels down to the villages to address the dismal number of children attending schools across various communities of the council.
Also Speaking, the Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Hajiya Hajara Wanka said as an indigent of Kirfi, she will do everything within her power to ensure that the problem is eradicated completely from the area in no distant future.
