The Wife of the Bauchi State Governor, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed, has identified neglect and lack of care by some husbands as factors contributing to drug abuse among married women.
She stated this at a one-day security awareness and coordination workshop for staff of her office at the Government House Banquet Hall, Bauchi.
Hajiya Aisha said some husbands, particularly those with low incomes, abandon their family responsibilities and take additional wives without adequately providing for their needs.
While noting that such situations could expose women to frustration and other social challenges, including drug abuse, the First Lady advised housewives to avoid self-medication and always seek medical attention before taking medicines.
Also speaking, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, Bauchi State Command, Musa Muhammad Ahmadu, urged the participants to avoid rumour-mongering and rely on official information before taking any action.
The workshop focused on personal safety, risk management and multi-agency coordination.
