A Member Representing Katagun Federal Constituency, Alh. Awwalu Abdu Gwalabe has argued that the Nigerian economy is strong enough to sustain 12 additional states.
He stated this to newsmen on the sidelines of the Public Hearing on the review of the 1999 Constitution in North East, zone A, Gombe centre.
Alh. Awwalu Gwalabe, further argued that, if the Federal Government can afford to spend N17 trillion on construction of lagos-calabar Road alone, it shows that the economy can sustain the creation of additional states.
He said for over four decades the people of katagun zone in Bauchi state have been agitating for the creation of state but bureaucracy and other bottlenecks hindered their efforts of attaining their dreams.
The lawmaker dismissed claims that it is difficult to create additional states in a democratic rule because of the constitutional hurdles attached to the process said it only requires an alteration of one section of the Constitution to make it easier.
According to him if the section of the Constitution that only recognises the existence of 36 states and FCT can be amended that will provide a window for the creation of additional states.
Alh. Awwal Gwalabe pleaded with the people of Katagun zone in Bauchi state not to lose hope and continue to rally their representatives at the national assembly so that the katagun state will become a reality.
