Religious leaders in Bauchi State have called on the Government to establish a Special School for premarital counselling and training to curb the increasing rate of broken marriages.
The Permanent Commissioner Bauchi State Hisbah Board, Barrister Aminu Balarabe Isa, made the appeal at a 1-day Workshop on challenges affecting matrimonial homes and ways to strengthen marriages organised by the Office of the First Lady, in collaboration with the Hisbah wing of the State Shari’ah Commission.
The event, themed “Challenges Faced by Matrimonial Homes: The Marriage Process, Causes of Divorce and Ways to End It”, brought together key stakeholders, religious leaders, women groups and legislators held at the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA state secretariat in Bauchi.
Barrister Aminu Isa, who commended the state government for providing the enabling environment for the commission to conduct its activities, called for the establishment of a school for pre-wedding and marital lectures, which he said would help reduce the rising cases of broken marriages.
The Guest Speaker, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, charged stakeholders to work collectively in addressing marital issues, a problem that has destroyed dozens of relationships and homes.
Sheikh Aminu Daurawa who is the Kano State Hisbah Commander, linked many cases of marital breakdown to inadequate pre-marital knowledge, stressing that poor understanding of each partner’s nature remains a major cause of conflict in homes.
Earlier, the Chairman State Assembly Committee on Religious Affairs, Barrister Habibu Umar, pledged legislative support to all projects initiated by the board, noting that lawmakers are committed to reducing the menace of divorce across the state.
In her remarks, the Wife of Bauchi State Governor, Hajiya Aisha Bala Muhammad, thanked the participants for paying attention to the lecture and encouraged them to put the knowledge gained to practice.
She reaffirmed commitment to supporting efforts aimed at resolving the issues that often lead to marital problems.
