His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has declared Sunday the nineteenth of April 2026 as the first day of the Islamic Month of Zhul Kadah 1447, Hijiri calendar.
A statement by the Chairman Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council Sokoto, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, says the Sultanate Council together with National Moon Sighting Committee did not received any report confirming the sighting of the new crescent of Zhul Kadah om Friday the 29th of Shawwal 1447AH, equivalent to 17 of April 2026,
It notes that Saturday, the 18th of April 2026 is the thirtieth of Shawwal and therefore Saturday shall be the first of Zhul Kadah.
The Statement cites that the Monthly Observation of the moon, clarifies the Islamic Calendar within a given year, thereby making the month of Ramadan moon sightings more acceptable to the general Muslims in the Country.
