The Bauchi State advocacy team has Solicited Partnership with ANNUR Chambers in Prosecuting Perpetrators of Gender Base Violence and other human right abuses in the State.
The Bauchi State Coordinator COVID-19 Response Mechanism Project, who is also the State Chairman Network of People Living with HIV and AIDS in Nigeria, Abdullahi Ibrahim made the plea while leading the team on a Courtesy visit to ANNUR Chambers in Bauchi.
Abdullahi Ibrahim said the partnership is necessary in view of the risen GBV cases and most of the cases are loose in the Court due to lack of strong prosecutors.
Abdullahi Ibrahim explain that the project it is recording about 40 GBV and 30 human rights abuses within a Month in the 5 Implementing local Government areas of Bauchi State.
“We have lawyers from federation of women lawyers and Ministry of Justice but they are too engaged, so we need an independent lawyers that can support us”
He Commended the Private Legal Firm for extending the hand of support in one of their GBV litigation case in Court.
Speaking on behalf of the ANNUR Chambers, the Principal Partner Barrister Kamal Muhammad appreciate the efforts of the project in amplifying the voices of GBV survivors in the State.
Barrister Kamal Muhammad enjoined the project to register with the Chambers to enable them continue accessing legal support free of charge.
He expressed concerned over the reoccurrence of GBV cases in the state and urge the project to redouble efforts in sensitizing the public on the need to speak out and seek readdress in a Court of Law.
“It’s their right to talk and that is the only way to stop the reoccurrence of such offences”
The COVID 19 Response Mechanism Project is focusing on Community System Strengthening, GBV and human right abuses and ensure prosecution of offenders in the 5 Implementing local Government areas of Bauchi State.
