Bauchi State has commenced the National Immunisation Plus Days exercise, targeting over two million children under five across the 20 local government areas.
Executive Chairman of the State Primary Healthcare Board, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, disclosed this during the flag-off held at the District Head’s Palace in Miri, Bauchi.
Dr Mohammed said the exercise targets two million, two hundred and sixty thousand children, covering households, markets, schools, and border communities across the state.
He commended traditional rulers and development partners for supporting the exercise, which aims to strengthen immunity against preventable childhood diseases.
In his remarks, Commissioner for Health, Dr Sani Mohammed Dambam, revealed that traditional leaders have been directed to nominate vaccinators for better community coverage.
Dr Dambam applauded Governor Bala Mohammed’s commitment to the health sector, citing subsidised hospital drugs, ongoing salary review for health workers and 15% budgetary allocation.
District Head of Miri, Alhaji Hussaini Abubakar Othman, appreciated the launch in his domain and appealed for the upgrade of Miri health facility to a cottage hospital.
