Ganjuwa LGA Reaffirms Commitment to Tackling Child Malnutrition

Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders to improve the nutritional status of children in the area.
The Director of Primary Healthcare, Mr Iliya Ishaku, gave the assurance while receiving a delegation from the Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) during an advocacy visit to the council’s leadership held at its secretariat in Kafin Madaki.
Mr Ishaku said the local government had intensified efforts to combat malnutrition, noting that the activities of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in providing specialised care for malnourished children had strengthened the council’s response to the challenge.
Earlier, a representative of the CS-SUNN National Secretariat, Elder Kenneth Amogu, stressed the importance of adequate nutrition in childhood, describing it as essential for healthy brain development and the future productivity of children.
He explained that stunting has lifelong consequences on children’s physical and cognitive development, and called on all stakeholders to intensify efforts to prevent malnutrition.
Also speaking, the Bauchi State Coordinator of CS-SUNN, Ms Dabis Mwalike, advocated dedicated budgetary allocations for nutrition programmes, timely release and effective utilisation of approved funds.
She also urged the Local Government Committee on Food and Nutrition (LGCFN) to strengthen coordination for sustainable nutrition interventions in the area.
