The National Islamic Centre (NIC) has urged Muslim social media users and influencers to confirm the authenticity of online contents before posting or commenting, stressing the need for responsible digital engagement within the Ummah.

A communiqué signed by the National Amir, Professor Muhammad Babangida, and Drafting Committee Chairman, Mustafa Ibrahim, states the Centre will monitor government policies and collaborate with Islamic organisations to defend Muslim interests lawfully.

The convention with the theme: “The Role of Muslims in Nation Building: Challenges and Opportunities,” drew four hundred and thirteen participants from twelve states and the FCT, and featured two scholarly paper presentations.

The communiqué reaffirms the Movement’s commitment to promoting guidance, establishing truth, and supporting moral reorientation among youths with the aim of reforming communities and enhancing societal development across the country.

It also urges President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to replace the INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, with a more credible individual and discontinue plans to revalidate voters cards, while continuing correction of existing errors.

The communiqué says political office holders, must provide quality governance, uphold transparency, ensure accountability, and fulfil campaign promises to sustain public trust and strengthen confidence in democratic institutions nationwide.

It further encourages Islamic bodies to promote Zakat, endowments, interest-free financial programmes and risk-sharing systems while empowering youths, women and vulnerable groups through skills development initiatives within Islamic finance opportunities.

Declaring the event open, Chairman Professor Musa Muhammad Borodo advised Muslims to worship with all their hearts, while the National Amir identified fake news as a driver of crises and sought renewed unity.
