The Students of Special Education Centre, Yelwa, in Bauchi State have emerged winners of the National Girls in Information Communication Technology ICT Competition 2026 in Abuja with an innovative project, tagged “Hands That Speak.
A statement by the Information and Public Relations Officer of the State ministry of Education Jalaludeen Usman says the students outperformed contestants from across the country with the technology-based solution designed to bridge communication gaps and promote inclusion for persons with hearing impairments.
According to the statement, the success reflects the students exceptional talent, creativity, and determination, while demonstrating the transformative impact of inclusive education.
The statement quotes the Commissioner Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim as stating that the victory validates the Ministry’s commitment to promoting inclusive education and empowering students with special needs to realise their full potential.
“This remarkable accomplishment is a proud moment for Bauchi State and a testament to the fact that every child, regardless of ability or background, can excel when provided with the right opportunities, support, and enabling environment”, the Commissioner says.
It appreciates Governor Bala Mohammed, for the unwavering commitment to the education sector and continuous support for policies that promote quality and inclusive education.
The statement further commends the technical partner, Zee Tech Foundation for its mentorship, technical guidance, and support throughout the competition process and the students for serving as an inspiration to young people across the country.
