Bauchi State Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has conducted a one-day orientation on Climate Change as it affects the health for members of Technical Working Group, TWG of the Health State Adaptation Plan, HSAP in the State.
The orientation took place at the Ministry’s Public Health Emergency Operation Centre in Bauchi metropolis.
In a paper titled “Climate Change and Health”, an academic with Abubakar Tafawa Ɓalewa University ATBU Bauchi, Dr Tijjani Garba said climate change affects humans’ health through heatstroke, increase in cardiovascular and renal diseases, injuries and deaths from flood and storm.
Dr Tijjani Garba who explained that these factors manifest from rising temperature, heatwave, rise in sea-level and storms, noted that these could be mitigated through early warning, massive tree planting, clearing water ways, erecting climate resilient structures among others.
In an interview with Radio Nigeria Globe FM Bauchi shortly after the orientation, the Chairman of the TWG Bauchi HSAP, Alhaji Ɗanasabe Abdullahi said the essence of the orientation was to acquiant members with the accurate information of what is expected of them.
He commended Dr Tijjani for the paper presentation, noting that it touches almost every aspect that required on climate as it affects public health.
Alhaji Ɗanasabe disclosed that very soon, members of the TWG would embark on a desk review of the template that explicitly outlined their responsibility for the fire years period of the project.
