The Bauchi State Government, in collaboration with the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and its technical partners, has organized a stakeholders’ sensitization workshop on proof of address in Bauchi.

Declaring the workshop open, the State Head of Civil Service, Barrister Muhammad Sani Umar, described the initiative as timely and strategic, given the importance of accurate data in effective governance.

He explained that the programme is designed to establish a credible framework for identifying residents, which will enhance planning, strengthen security, and improve service delivery across the state.

Barrister Umar emphasized the critical role of local governments, noting that as the tier of government closest to the people, they are key to validating residency and ensuring effective implementation at the grassroots level.

“The benefits of this initiative are far reaching it will strengthen our security architecture, improve policy formulation through reliable data, enhance revenue opportunities and promote inclusive governance which will position Bauchi state as a model for efficient and forward thinking public administration”

He urged participants to drive public awareness and ensure compliance with the proof of address system, while also encouraging active participation during the technical sessions.

” I reaffirm the commitment of the Bauchi State Civil Service to supporting this initiative and ensuring it’s successful implementation of the policy”

The Head of Service use the medium to Commend Governor Bala Mohammed for his giant stride in strengthening good governance, promoting innovation and improving service delivery.

In his remarks, the Bauchi State Chairman of ALGON, Alhaji Mahmoud Baba Maaji Abubakar, said the proof of address policy is an initiative of ALGON and assured stakeholders of the association’s full support for its successful implementation.

He also appealed to residents to cooperate with authorities to ensure the success of the programme.

Speaking at the event, the Operating Officer of the Proof of Address project, Mrs Isi Okwuadi, said the initiative aims to provide foundational data for economic development and enhance security.

Also speaking, the President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Muhammad Yunusa, reaffirmed the union’s commitment to supporting the implementation of the proof of address policy.

Participants ware drawn from MDAs and 20 local Government areas.
