Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital ATBUTH, Bauchi, says it has conducted more than one thousand surgeries of complicated cases between January and December this year.
The Head of the Surgery Department, Dr Kefas John Bwala, who disclosed this during the 15th anniversary of the department, held at the hospital’s conference hall, said the cases included knee replacements, brain surgeries, separation of conjoined newborns, kidney stone removals and other high-risk procedures.
He acknowledged the provison of essential equipment by the hospital management, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, TETFund and other partners.
Dr Bwala added that the department also carried out over one thousand five hundred minor surgeries, bringing the total number of operations to more than two thousand in 2025.
In a remark, the Chief Medical Director, ATBUTH, Professor Yusuf Jibrin Bara, expressed satisfaction with the department’s performance, citing positive feedback from patients within and outside Bauchi State.
Professor Yusuf Bara appreciated the commitment and dedication of surgeons as well as the support of their families to saving lives.
Also speaking, the Vice-Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Professor Ibrahim Hassan Garba, represented by the Dean, Faculty of Computing, Professor Abdulsalam Ya’u Gital, said the department’s achievements reflect excellence and should be emulated by others.
