ASUU Strike: FG threatened no work no Pay.

The Federal Government has Urge the Academic Staff Union of University ASUU to shelves its planned warning strike and embrace dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues.
This is contain in a statement jointly signed by the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa and State Minister of Education Professor Suwaiba Said Ahmad, emphasis that the Federal Government has made comprehensive offer to the union.
The statement reiterate that the offer addresses the Union Primary Concerns that includes working conditions, staff welfare and institutional governance.
According to the Statement the administration of President Bola Ahmad Tinubu has approved a robust teaching allowance designed to reflect the value of academic work and motivate the lecturers across Public Universities.
” All matters relating to the review of conditions of service have been duly addressed, except those within the jurisdiction of individual University governing Councils which are actively being handled. The Federal Government remains open and committed to continued engagements with ASUU once their formal response to the offer is received ”
The Statement reaffirm the present administration respect for the university autonomy and clarified that certain aspect of ASUU demands are statutory responsibilities of University governing Councils.
The statement reminded the union that the principal of no work no Pay remains an extant provision of Nigeria labour law and government would invoke it should ASUU proceed with the strike.
“While government remains committed to peaceful dialogue, it will equally enforce existing laws to protect the integrity of our education system and ensure accountability”
The Ministers assured Nigerians that the Federal Government remains open to constructive engagements with ASUU and other stakeholders in the education sector.
