Governments at all levels have been enjoined to adopt effective strategies to improve the standard of education in schools.
The appeal was made by a retired class teacher, Malam Isiaka Bununu, during the reunion of the Government Science Secondary School (GSSS) Darazo Class of 1980, held in Bauchi.
Malam Isiaka Bununu expressed concern over the declining standard of education, attributing it to the presence of unqualified teachers and inadequate instructional materials.
He urged government authorities to provide necessary teaching aids to enhance learning outcomes in schools.
He also commended the alumni for remembering him 46 years after their graduation and encouraged them to remain united.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the GSSS Darazo Class of 1980, John Mato, said the reunion was organised to reconnect and share memories decades after leaving school.
John Mato disclosed that members of the “Mandelas 80” set are developing plans to give back to society in appreciation of the role it played in their upbringing.
He noted that this year’s reunion was unique due to the presence of their former teacher and some senior colleagues.
The Chairman expressed satisfaction with the large turnout and called for sustained participation in future engagements.
Also speaking, a former Managing Director of Bauchi Radio Corporation, Alhaji Sani Ahmad, who graduated from the school 48 years ago, commended the class for maintaining strong ties over the years.
He urged members to continue supporting one another and sustain their unity.
On his part, the third Head Boy of the school, Shu’aibu Maidawa, expressed delight at being part of the gathering and encouraged members to maintain the spirit of togetherness.
Highlights of the reunion included the confirmation of substantive executive members, special prayers offered for 39 deceased colleagues and contribution from alumni on how to move forward.
