The Federal Polytechnic Bauchi FedPoly, says the integration of Organic Farming into modern Agricultural system will resuscitate farmlands and guarantee the health and wellbeing of people across the country.
The Rector of the institution Alhaji Sani Usman stated this while declaring open a 5-day training on Organic Farming organised by TetFund Centre of Excellence for Integrated Farming System, FedPoly Bauchi for 70 staff and members of the immediate community.
Alhaji Sani Usman represented by the Deputy Rector Dr Dalhatu Sa’idu said sustainable agricultural practice like the adoption of organic materials in farming will reduce chemical exposure due to use of synthetic fertiliser, thereby reducing cost and ensuring healthy food and society which will in turn guarantee food security.
He acknowledged the effort of the centre in following its mandate in training and research, and appealed to the participants to pay attention towards making s positive impact to their immediate environment.
Earlier, the Director TetFund Centre of Excellence of the Polytechnic, Dr Abdullahi Mohammed said the training was conceived after careful deliberations with over fifteen partner organisations on the need to adopt Organic Farming being the safest, most affordable and sustainable agricultural practice in the present day society.
Dr Abdullahi Mohammed said the centre was recently selected out of the six established across the country for upgrade with a three hundred million naira intervention to expand its outreach especially as it relates to research on its demonstration farm and other interventions.
In their separate goodwill messages, the representatives of Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture, State Agricultural Development Program BSADP, State College of Agriculture- Science and Technology, acknowledged the negative impact of over dependence on synthetic materials, pledging their support towards the success of the initiative.
In a vote of thanks, the Head of Technical/Research of the Centre Engineer Dr Victoria Ada Abodenyi who said organic farming improves soil fertility, and guarantees the wellbeing of people, appreciated all stakeholders for contributing towards conceiving the idea.
