The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has been ranked 82nd in the world and fifth in Africa in the latest global football league rankings, underlining the growing profile of Nigeria’s top-flight competition on the international stage.

According to the latest rankings, the NPFL is one of only five African leagues to feature among the continent’s highest-rated domestic competitions. Egypt’s Premier League leads the continent, followed by Morocco’s Botola Pro, South Africa’s Premier Soccer League, Algeria’s Ligue Professionnelle 1, with the NPFL completing Africa’s top five.

England’s Premier League retained its position as the world’s highest-ranked football league, ahead of Spain’s La Liga, Germany’s Bundesliga, Italy’s Serie A and France’s Ligue 1.

The latest ranking is expected to boost confidence in Nigerian domestic football and encourage greater investment, improved infrastructure, better officiating and stronger performances by Nigerian clubs in continental competitions.

Football stakeholders believe the recognition reflects the steady progress of the NPFL and will further enhance its reputation as one of Africa’s leading domestic football leagues.
