Excitement is building in Bauchi as Wikki Tourist gear up to face Enugu Rangers tomorrow at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 6 encounter. Kick-off is slated for 4:00 pm.
Wikki Tourist, currently 9th on the NPFL table, will look to capitalize on their home advantage after enduring a difficult run on the road. The Bauchi side lost narrowly to Nasarawa United before falling 1-0 to Katsina United, in a game where they had two goals controversially disallowed. Determined to bounce back, Wikki will rely on the leadership of captain Idris Guda, while in attack the trio of Dadong, Lamido, and John Mairiga will carry the scoring threat. In midfield, Klinshak and Ndala are expected to provide creativity and balance to link play effectively.
Enugu Rangers, the Flying Antelopes, also come into this tie seeking a response. They suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Kano Pillars on Matchday 4 at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, while their Matchday 5 fixture against Rivers United was postponed due to the Port Harcourt side’s continental engagement. Tomorrow’s clash therefore marks their return to action, and they will be eager to reassert themselves near the top of the table. Rangers’ key men to watch include striker Godwin Obaje, attacking midfielder Kazeem Ogunleye, and winger Chidiebere Nwobodo, while new arrivals Ifeanyi Assurance and Monday Daniel provide added depth in midfield and defence.
Historically, Rangers have enjoyed the upper hand in this fixture. In recent years, they defeated Wikki Tourist 3-0 in Enugu in April 2023 and edged them 2-1 in June 2022, while both sides settled for a goalless draw in Bauchi in February of the same year. Wikki’s last notable success came in February 2023, when they secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory at home. Beyond the last five meetings, the Bauchi outfit also recorded important wins in previous seasons, including a 2-1 triumph in 2021 and a 1-0 success in 2019 results that underline their ability to upset the Flying Antelopes whenever they play in front of their passionate supporters.
With both sides hungry for points, fans at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium can expect an intense contest, one likely to be decided by fine margins. For Wikki, a win would restore confidence after their away setbacks, while Rangers will be determined to prove their title credentials on the road.
