The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Bauchi State Chapter, has commended Governor Bala Mohammed for the recent reorganisation of the Sports sector, particularly the appointment of Bashir Ya’u as Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development.
A statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Association, Bala Bawaji, and the Secretary, Elizabeth Kah, describes the appointment as a positive step towards revitalising sports development and youth empowerment in Bauchi State.
The Association congratulates the newly sworn-in Commissioner, expressing confidence in his ability to provide the leadership needed to reposition the sector.
It notes that his experience and commitment would contribute significantly to strengthening youth participation in sports, improve sporting infrastructure, promote grassroots talent development, and enhance the performance of the State athletes and teams at national and international competitions.
SWAN also reaffirms commitment to working closely with the Ministry by providing professional, objective and constructive sports journalism aimed at promoting the growth and development of sports in the state.
The Association further urges the new Commissioner to engage relevant stakeholders, sports administrators and development partners in implementing policies and programmes geared towards transforming the sector and create greater opportunities for young people.
SWAN wishes Bala Ya’u a successful, productive and impactful tenure, expressing optimism that his leadership would usher in a new era of sustainable sports development in the state.
