Bauchi State Government has launched a subsidized fertilizer sales programme for the 2026 farming season, with NPK fertilizer to be sold to farmers at a subsidized price of twenty thousand naira instead of the market price of thirty-eight thousand naira across all twenty local government areas.
Similarly, the state government flagged off the payment of five hundred thousand naira start-up grants to one thousand, two hundred and fifty trained youth and women to establish sustainable agribusinesses, create jobs and strengthen livelihoods.
Governor Bala Mohammed who announced the initiatives at Bununu town in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of the state, said the fertilizer subsidy and agricultural grants are part of his administration’s commitment to supporting farmers, boosting agricultural production and strengthening food security across the state.
Bala Mohammed said the government has procured adequate quantities of fertilizer and other farm inputs to meet growing demand and directed the Ministry of Agriculture and relevant agencies to ensure the products are distributed strictly to the intended beneficiaries.
He also urged beneficiaries of the five hundred thousand naira grants to invest the funds responsibly, embrace modern farming practices and contribute to food security to enhance agricultural productivity and create sustainable livelihoods.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Ilyasu Aliyu Gital who described the government’s intervention as commendable, assured that the ministry would effectively supervise the distribution of fertilizer and other inputs to reach the target beneficiaries.
He expressed the ministry’s readiness to implement the laudable programmes aimed at achieving food sufficiency, strengthen the agricultural value chain and promote sustainable economic development across the state.
