The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment AGILE Project in Bauchi State has launched the Digital Attendance Tracking Application aimed at improving efficiency, accountability, and transparency within the educational system.
The AGILE State Project Coordinator, Hajiya Ladi Hamma stated this at a one-day training workshop on Digital Attendance Tracking for 43 Schools under Bauchi South Zone held in Bauchi.
Hajiya Ladi Hamma who described attendance as a reflection of discipline, commitment, and student engagement, noted that the training was designed to equip them with practical skills and knowledge on how to effectively use digital attendance tracking tools.
“Attendance is more than just a record—it is a reflection of discipline, commitment, and student engagement. Traditional methods of tracking attendance often come with challenges such as errors, delays, and inefficiency. With the advent of digital solutions, we now have the opportunity to transform this vital process into one that is accurate, timely, and easily accessible”, the Project Coordinator highlights.
Earlier, the Component Lead Financial Incentives of the Project Hajiya Hadiza Abdulkadir said the workshop is aimed at training the participants on how to capture accurate and transparent attendance, learn the standard process for recording daily attendance of beneficiaries and understand the importance of confidentiality, honesty and integrity in dealing with beneficiary information.
“The workshop is aimed at training the participants on how to capture accurate and transparent attendance in respective schools, learn the standardised process for recording daily attendance of CCT beneficiaries using the Mobile App and to understand the importance of confidentiality, honesty and integrity when dealing with beneficiary information”, the CCT Component Lead says.
In an interview with Radio Nigeria, the Consultant Digital Attendance Tracking Application, Dr Kabir Ibrahim Musa from Computer Science Department ATBU Bauchi who said the app was developed using QR code to scan the ID cards of the students to verify if they are in school or not, noted that it is also designed to be integrated with the enrolment process of the project.
“So today we are here to train the respective stakeholders in terms of how to use the application, it is a very simple application that uses QR code to scan the ID card of students and then from there indicate whether they are in the school or absent. This is one of the components we have developed to integrate with the enrolment process of the project”, the Consultant explains.
Dr Kabir Musa said with the app, one can verify the actual number of students in a class using a robust algorithm.
In a remark, the Director School Services State Ministry of Education Hajiya Fatima Garba appreciated AGILE for the effort and urged the trainees to always do the right thing to ensure success in the implementation.
Radio Nigeria Education Correspondent Abubakar Baba Ahmad reports that the training is to conducted in four centres of Bauchi, Kafin Madaki, Misau and Katagum with a target of 100 schools across the state in attendance.
