Arewa Initiative Urges FG to Strengthen Country’s Security Architecture
The federal government has been tasked to strengthen the country’s security architecture by ensuring increased deployment of trained personnel to high-risk areas, improved intelligence gathering and inter-agency coordination.
The Director General, Arewa Cohesion Initiative, Dr Abdullahi Idiris who made the call during a news conference in Bauchi, said equipping security personnel with modern technology would help boost their capacity to confront any threat capable of undermining national security.
Dr Idris identified community-based security approach, to support and regulate community policing structures and encourage collaboration between local and formal security agencies.
The Director General of the Initiative noted that in recent times northern Nigeria was facing serious security challenge, hence the call on the federal government to introduce economic and social interventions, such as youth empowerment and investment in education.
He emphasised that justice and accountability were key in ensuring swift prosecution of criminal actors bombarding the region and addressing impunity do to restore public confidence in the country’s leadership.
Dr Abdullahi Idiris therefore called for humanitarian support to survivors of conflict through provision of relief materials and ensuring rehabilitation for displaced persons, rebuilding affected communities and restoring livelihoods.
