The National President of the Association of Deaf in Nigeria, Malam Haruna Tsafe, has described the commitment of the Bauchi State Government to the Education of Persons with Special needs as exceptional.

This followed a visit to the Special Education Centre SEC Yelwa by the President and Northeast Board of trustees of the association to inspect the condition of the school as well as teaching and learning activities.

Speaking during the visit, Malam Tsafe acknowledged the standards and quality of educational facilities at the school, noting that the testimonies of the students is a clear manifestation of the State government’s commitment to their welfare.

“What we have seen here at the Special Education Center, Yelwa is the best we have seen so far among schools for students with special needs,” he said.

“We thank the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, for providing a conducive learning environment for all,” Malam Tsafe stated.

The team also used the opportunity to celebrate students of the school who emerged winners of this year’s National Girls in Information Communication Technology ICT Competition in Abuja with an innovative project, tagged “Hands That Speak.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Education, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed, said students with special needs have a special place in the heart of the present administration.

“To ensure there is no discrimination, we have paid all their examination fees including NECO and JAMB for our students with special needs in all our schools,” the Permanent Secretary said.

He assured that the government will continue to ensure that special schools lack nothing in terms of qualified teachers as well as teaching and learning materials.
