14,000 Bauchi Farmers to Benefit From a 3-year Climate-Smart Project.
In an effort to boost farming activities in Bauchi State, about fourteen thousand farmers from Bauchi North Senatorial district have been selected to benefit from a three year Climate Resilient Agriculture Programme.
The Executive Director of the Foundation for Sustainable Smallholder Solutions Dr Isaiah Gabriel disclosed this during the official launch of an Empowerment for smallholder farmers to thrive and build climate resilience through the Regenerative Agriculture Project in Bauchi North held in Bauchi.
Dr Isaiah Gabriel noted that the foundation in collaboration with Heineken Africa foundation and other Community-based organisations designed the project targeting fourteen thousand smallholder farmers directly and more than fifty thousand community members indirectly.
He further explained that before the expiration of the programme the farmers would be supported with improved seedlings, climate smart information, extension support, mechanisation as well as easier pathways to markets.
In a remark, the State Governor Bala Mohammed reiterated his administration’s commitment to agriculture development through numerous supports with a view to making the state food sufficient thereby contributing the country’s food security programme.
Bala Mohammed represented by the State Commissioner of Agriculture Dr. Iliyasu Aliyu Gital assured the foundation of full support towards achieving the set objectives.
On his part, the Emir of Katagum Dr. Umar Faruk the second thanked the foundation for selecting Bauchi North which comprises Katagum, Shira, Jama’are, Giade, Itas Gadau, Zaki and Gamawa local governments as beneficiaries of the programme.
Dr. Umar Faruk represented by Danejin Katagum Alhaji Liman Bello appealed to the foundation to expand the project to other parts of the State.
Giving their testimonies, some of the beneficiaries of the programme from Kano and Jigawa states said the intervention changed their ways of farming and yielded positive results.
