The United Nations Children’s Fund, (UNICEF) Nigeria with support from the Global Affairs Canada (GAC) has handed over about forty five new branded motorcycles to Bauchi State Government towards reaching the grassroot population with the needed health services.

Delivering the motorcycled at the event in Bauchi, the Chief of UNICEF, Bauchi Field Office, Dr Nuzhat Rafique said the donation was aimed at improving healthcare service delivery in hard-to-reach communities across the state.

Dr Rafique noted the Global Affairs Canada’s numerous interventions through UNICEF in the state, especially the recent one that focuses on adolescent reproductive health services.

She said research had shown that less privileged families in rural areas were deprived of maternal and child health interventions, hence the need to provide the motorcycles to navigate hard-to-reach communities across the twenty local government areas.

According to her, each local government area would receive two motorbikes to reach the areas where mother and children as well as adolescents would be provided the needed care, as they cannot access same due to financial barriers and their distance to health facilities.

Receiving the branded motorcycles, the State Commissioner for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Sani Mohammed Dambam appreciated UNICEF and Global Affairs Canada for the most needed interventions.

Dr Sani Dambam assured to monitor the motorcycles were judiciously utilised for the main purpose they provided.
