United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Nigeria has appointment of new Country Representative, Ms. Wafaa Saeed Abdelatef, with over twenty years experience in humanitarian and development expertise.

A statement issued on Tuesday says Ms. Wafaa Abdelatef, previously served as UNICEF Representative in Somalia, where she advanced children’s rights in challenging conditions, which earned her widespread recognition.

It states that her career includes senior roles with UN agencies such as Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), World Food Programmer (WFP), and UNICEF across Sudan, Pakistan, Syria, and Ethiopia as well as working in global offices in New York and Geneva.

According to the statement, before joining the United Nations, Ms. Wafaa collaborated with Non Governmental Organisation (NGOs), academia, and the private sector in Sudan, covering displacement and environmental conservation.

It discloses that Ms. Wafaa holds a Master’s degree in Architecture from Belgium’s Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and another Master’s in Physical Planning from the University of Khartoum.

It expresses confidence that her strategic planning and programme management skills would drive progress in the ongoing efforts for full actualisation of children’s rights in Nigeria.

While welcoming Ms. Wafaa to the country, UNICEF Nigeria expresses confidence that her extensive experience and uncompromising dedication to humanitarian mission, will significantly contribute to Nigeria’s progress towards achieving the well-being of every child.
