In an effort to find the immediate causes of Child Mortality in Bauchi and Ganjuwa Local government areas, stakeholders have been engaged to deliberate on research findings from the communities for the successfully implementation of Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance project in the two pilot LGAs.
Speaking at a one day Stakeholders feedback meeting held in Bauchi, the CHAMPS Lead on Community Engagement, Dr Jamilu Yaya Said the Stakeholders feedback meeting was organised as part of the project activities in aligning with ethical standards to present the outcomes of the research from the Communities to the stakeholders.
Dr Jamilu Yaya explain that the research on Child mortality prevention suvailance in the affected communities was conducted to find community knowledge about CHAMPS, formative research which focus on strategy accepted by the communities in implementing the project and rapid assessment research, which dwell on issues that was not clearly responded on the consent after death for the conduct of Minimal inversion procedure to finds the actual cause of Child death for proper action.
“Who is the right person to be contacted in an event of consent , what are the process involves in death notification and also the religious and cultural provision of body management and corps transportation we have gather all this findings and analyse it and now presented to the stakeholders for confirmation ”
He commended the participants for their contribution during the session.
The CHAMPS Lead Community Engagement enjoined the stakeholders for continues sensitization of community members on Maternal Mortality and Child Health.
Also speaking the CHAMPS Lead on Social and Behavioral Sciences work stream Dr Magaji Dafi said globally over 5 million children died annually due to different factors and Nigeria is among the Countries in Africa with high Child Mortality hence the need for implementing the project.
Dr Magaji Dafi stressed that the research focus on perception of people on Child Health and mortality prevention suvailance, equipment required to be use in the health facility to diagnose the cause of Child Mortality and advise of community members on how to achieve the goals of the project.
He explain further that CHAMPS has been engaging critical stakeholders in the Health sector, traditional rulers, Religious and community leaders for their support to actualize the success of the project.
Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance Project is been implemented in Bauchi State by the College of Medical Sciences Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi.
