Sports Desk Officers and Game Masters in Public Schools across Bauchi State have been urged to leverage on Local content by scouting for talents at the grassroots towards making sports a driver for sustainable development in the State.
The Director Sports, State Ministry of Education Bala Maijama’a made the call a the opening of a 3-day Capacity training workshop for Sports Desk Officers and Game Masters with the theme; “Enhancing game administration and sports development” held in Bauchi.
Bala Maijama’a advised the participants to improvise by making use of available sporting facilities in schools and other places like the Stadium in training local talents to achieve the desired goals.
Earlier, the Director School Services Bauchi SUBEB, Malam Zuhairu Usman said the training was organised to prepare the participants and in extension prospective pupils for the upcoming 2025 UBEC/SUBEB Basic Education Schools Sports Competition scheduled for November in Bauchi.
Malam Zuhairu Usman stressed the need for the stakeholders to scout for talented children from all the 20 LGAs in the state to ensure the state becomes victorious in the competition.
Declaring the training open, the Executive Chairman SUBEB Alhaji Adamu Duguri represented by the Permanent Commissioner One Alhaji Idris Hardawa who said sports enhances psychological and mental health, expressed hope that the event will lead to the development of sports administration in the state.
In a goodwill message, the representative of Youth Sports Federation and a Facilitator at the training Malam Nasiru Maidawa acknowledged the role of sports in gaming activities and promised to deliver the right knowledge to impact those at the grassroots.
The training which drew participants from all the 20 Local Education Authority Sports Desks in the state is aimed at creating foundation for success in future sporting activities.
