The Bauchi State Police Command begins investigation of a motor accident that resulted in the discovery of 387 blocks of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa in Toro Local Government Area.
Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil in a statement said the accident occurred on 4 October 2025, in Wom Village, involving two Toyota Corolla vehicles travelling in opposite directions.
The statement says a search of an unidentified driver’s vehicle led to the recovery of 387 blocks of suspected cannabis, a travel bag, two polythene bags, a Tecno phone, and vehicle documents.
Preliminary investigations according to the statement reveals that a white Toyota Corolla, driven by a 45-year old Ali Muhammad, was conveying the District Head of Nabardo, Alhaji Suleiman Bala Suleiman and his family.
While the other vehicle, a white Toyota Corolla, reportedly driven by an unidentified person from Jos, Plateau State, attempted a reckless overtake which led to a head-on collision.
Victims of the crash sustained various injuries and were taken to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) Bauchi, where the District Head is receiving treatment for a fractured leg.
Police said the case has been handed to the State Investigation Department for forensic analysis before transfer to NDLEA, while efforts continue to trace the fleeing driver and ensure justice.
