The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU), Bauchi State Chapter, has called on the state government to ensure the full and proper implementation of the new salary structure for its members across the state.
The State Chairman of JOHESU, Comrade Ibrahim Yahaya, made the call during a press briefing in Bauchi.
Comrade Ibrahim Yahaya stated that, the implementation of the new salary structure, which commenced in March 2026, has been affected by several challenges, which include the downgrading of some members by one grade level, placement of workers on Step One, and the removal of salary skipping.
He further identified other issues such as improper placement of call duty, shift, teaching, and hazard allowances.
The JOHESU Chairman, also noted that healthcare workers under local government service were not captured in the new salary structure, describing the omission as a major concern that requires urgent attention.
Comrade Ibrahim urged the Bauchi State Government to address the anomalies observed in the March salary payments to ensure fairness and equity among health workers.
He, however, commended Governor Bala Mohammed for approving the implementation of 100 percent CONHESS and CONMESS salary structures.
“We appreciate Governor Bala Mohammed for his commitment and unwavering support to healthcare workers in the state,” he said.
The JOHESU Chairman assured members that the union is actively engaging relevant stakeholders to ensure full implementation of the agreement as contained in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the state government.
He appealed to members to remain calm and continue to discharge their duties diligently while efforts to resolve the issues continue.
JOHESU is an umbrella body comprising the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP), National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and the Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions (SSAUTHRIAI).
