The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria NAHCON Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf says the Federal Government is considering policy measures to support Nigerian airlines ahead of the 2026 Hajj operations.

He explained that the move is aimed at cushioning the impact of the rising global cost of aviation fuel, especially for carriers involved in transporting pilgrims.

Ambassador Yusuf made this known while providing updates on preparations for the 2026 Hajj exercise, noting that the Commission is engaging key stakeholders in the aviation sector.

He said discussions on operational logistics, particularly aviation fuel supply and pricing, are part of routine pre-Hajj planning and are being addressed through established frameworks.

The NAHCON Chairman dismissed reports claiming that some contracted airlines were unwilling to participate due to high fuel costs, describing such claims as false and misleading.

He reassured that all necessary arrangements are progressing smoothly, with the inaugural flight for the 2026 Hajj scheduled to take off on May 3rd, 2026.

Ambassador Yusuf said that the Federal Government’s intervention is intended to strike a balance between supporting airline operators and protecting pilgrims from high airfare.

He expressed confidence that, despite current economic challenges, the airlift of Nigerian pilgrims both outbound and return will be conducted efficiently, ensuring a smooth and successful Hajj exercise.
