The Bauchi State Government is to partner the Spinal Cord Injury Victims Association of Nigeria, SCIAN towards sensitising Motorists against over speeding and wreck less driving to reduce road crashes, death and permanent injuries..
The General Manager Yankari Express Corporation, Engineer Babaji Isa Yunusa made the call in Commemoration of his one year anniversary in office and this year’s World Spinal Cord Injury Day held at Yankari Motor Park in Bauchi metropolis.
Engineer Babaji Yunusa said road auto crash is one of the major causes of Spinal Cord injury which is devastating to the lives of individuals, hence the need for motorists especially commercial drivers to follow all laid down traffic regulations such as speed limits, overtaking among others to save lives and guarantee passengers wellbeing.
He said since assuming office, the Corporation has seen remarkable transformation in the area of office and upgrade and renovation, vehicles rehabilitation and staff welfare.
“When we came down, we all know how Yankari was, all the places there. We started with the physical appearance, we divided the problems of Yankari into three categories; The premises, the vehicles, and then the staff and we have done a tremendous work on each of these. Particularly when we see the environment, we have to give Yankari a new look, which it wasn’t before.”
“We have been saying, Bauchi is the gateway to the Northeast. We have to have befitting stations, particularly set of transport systems”, Engineer Babaji explains.
The General Manager of the Yankari Express Corporation further disclosed that the mechanical workshop, dispensary, parking lot and passengers waiting area have been either resuscitated or constructed to improve service delivery and comfort.
Engineer Babaji appealed to the state government to construct a befitting lodge at the motor park to provide passengers with befitting accomodation while on transit.
In a remark, the State Chairman Spinal Cord Injury Victims Association of Nigeria, Bauchi Chapter Iliya Ismail called on government at all levels to establish a comprehensive physiotherapy and rehabilitation centre for Spinal Cord Injury victims to ease their suffering.
