The Bauchi State Ministry of Justice has reaffirm that the new Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2022 has made adequate provisions for quick dispensation of Justice in the State.
The Overseeing Permanent Secretary of the Ministry who is also the State Solicitor General, Sha’awanatu Yusuf made this known while granting audience to officials of COVID-19 Response Mechanism Project being implemented in the State.
Sha’awanatu Yusuf explained that Judges now have maximum time frame of 5 adjournment within which to complete a case.
She said the Ministry also now has only 3 weeks to give advise on any diary case brought by the Police.
The Overseeing Permanent Secretary said the state government now releases funds for payments of prosecution witnesses if they do not have transportation money inline with the Provision of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2022.
According to the Sha’awanatu Yusuf, the Ministry has also established Citizen Right Directorate for mediation between warring parties to avoid going to Court.
She therefore used the medium to appeal to the people of the State with complaints to avail themselves to the opportunity for redress.
Sha’awanatu Yusuf emphasized the need for people that do not have the means of legal fees, they can go to Legal Aid Council for free litigation processes.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the State Coordinator Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN) Mr Munkaila Musa said the aim of their visit is to intimate the Ministry on the activities of COVID-19 Response Mechanism Project and seek collaboration to achieve the set objectives.
Mr Munkaila Musa said the Project is championing the course of Community System strengthening towards taking ownership and improve access to quality Healthcare in hospitals located in their areas.
He said the Project also carried out Gender Base Violence GBV cases, findings and referral for further action.
In a remark, the Entry Grants Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Circle 7 Salisu Ahmad Aliyu appealed to the Ministry to ensure quick dispensation of Justice in all GBV cases to serve as deterant to others.
