The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes Project, ACReSAL in Bauchi State had commenced a 3-day training on Resettlement Action Plan RAP implementation for Project Affected Persons PAP in the affected communities.

The Resettlement Action Plan implementation is aimed at ensuring people affected by a development project are treated fairly, compensated adequately, and helped to rebuild their lives.

The training is also geared towards sensitising the affected communities PAPs, to understand their roles and responsibilities for effective and complaint implementation.

Speaking at the opening of the event, the State Project Coordinator ACReSAL Dr Muhammad Kabir said the intervention followed recorded cases of gully and flood erosion from Tsohon Kampani to Gwallagan Mayaka, covering eight communities.

Dr Kabir who explained that over one billion naira has been earmarked for compensation with a 20 percent increment on the original valuation amount, urged all the stakeholders to provide detailed records of their affected property to prevent any grievances during compensation.

Also speaking, the Ward Head of Sulaiman Adamu Quarters Engineer Nurudeen Abubakar expressed optimism that the compensation will be just and fair, noting that those earlier omitted will be enrolled in due cause.

The Executive Director, Support Initiative for Sustainable Development SISDev, Hajiya Khadija Abubakar Katagum who said the organisation has been working in such communities for over 23 years, promised to ensure the lives of affected and underprivileged communities are protected.
