Over twelve thousand Secondary School Girls in Bauchi State have benefited from the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment AGILE financial support with a view to boost enrollment and retention.

The State Project Coordinator Hajiya Ladi Hamma stated this when she led the Project’s Technical Team on an advocacy visit to the Emirs of Dambam and Giade in the state.

Hajiya Ladi Hamma said the visit is to congratulate them over their upgrade from District Heads to Emirs by the state government and to seek their support, cooperation and fatherly advice.

She outlined the successes recorded under AGILE interventions to include financial support to over twelve thousand school girls, training of three hundred teachers on digital library, and renovation of one thousand and three schools.

The Project Coordinator further highlighted some action plans that have reached advance stage to include building of fourty two new schools and skills acquisition training centre as well as programme to bring back girls who left the school due to reasons such as marriage.

In their separate remarks, the Emir of Dambam Alhaji Idris Musa Sulaiman and his Giade counterpart Alhaji Abubakar Sabo acknowledged the impact of the project in schools across their Emirates.

They also thanked the federal government for selecting Bauchi among the benefiting states and urged parents to use the opportunity provided by sending their children to school especially the girl child.

The AGILE project is a World Bank supported programme in Nigeria under the federal ministry of education designed to boost the education of adolescent girls in twenty two states.
