As the rainy season sets in, farmers in Lere Emirate in Bauchi State have been enjoined to always consider the annual rainfall prediction by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency NiMeT towards achieving bumper harvest.
The Emir of Lere, Alhaji Nuru Adamu Jumba gave the advice in his Palace after Juma’at congregation.
He explained that the agency responsible for the prediction has been consistent, with more than ninety percent successes in recent years, hence the need for the farmers to embrace.
Alhaji Nuru Adamu Jumba used the forum to call on the Federal Government to introduce measures towards reducing the prices of farm inputs, specifically Fertilizer, herbicides and pesticides to ease high cost of production.
He explained that high cost of production remains the major obstacle to achieving economic growth and food security.
On the Current State of Security, the Emir charged residents to always know the people they are living with, not to accommodate unknown persons and report any suspicious movement by individuals or groups to the appropriate authority for prompt action.
The Emir called on youth in the area to be good ambassadors, respect constituted authorities, avoid talking laws into their hands and avoid illicit substances to guarantee their future.
Earlier, the District Head of Lere, Alhaji Jamilu Aliyu Bawa commended the State Governor, Bala Muhammed for his concerns to the security of lives and property of citizens.
Alhaji Jamilu Bawa also applauded the Governor for the developmental projects in both urban and rural areas that have direct bearing to the people.
He assured the support of people of the Emirate to the state government and promised to protect the development projects in the area with a view to consolidating on the gains recorded.
