An Expert in Information Communication Technology and Cyber Security Mal. Yazid Abubakar has advised Social Media users to always create strong passwords and firewall protections when using the internet to prevent themselves from cyber attacks.

Similarly, Internet users have also been urged to equip themselves with relevant laws that deal with the digital spaces to avoid prosecution.

Mal. Yazid Abubakar who made the calls while discussing the signing of the 2025 Cybercrimes Act by the Federal government and Cybercrimes being perpetrated by Internet users said the laws are very critical to the daily livelihood of the citizens.

He listed some of the Cyber attacks being perpetrated to include Phishing, password attack, spoofing, ransomware, malware among others.

According to the ICT Expert, people using the internet can to protect themselves from cyber attacks by avoiding suspicious links or opening unexpected attachments, typing website addresses directly into the browser instead of using links in messages, enabling two-factor authentication on accounts, keeping devices and security software up to date and avoiding messages that create urgency or ask for confidential information.

Mal..Yazid used the medium to further advice people against committing acts that contravene the newly signed Cybercrime laws such as inciting ethnic hatred or division, online harassment, spreading fake news, recording private conversations and unauthorised access to people’s devices.

Some Callers to the programme, Kalam Master and Adamu Kakaka emphasised the need for continued sensitisation on the ethical use of Social media for people to avoid breaking provisions of the law.
