The Wunti Unity Forum has expressed concern over the slow pace of the ongoing reconstruction of Wunti Street, citing the hardship being experienced by residents, commuters, and business owners.
Addressing journalists on the deteriorating condition of the project, the Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Murtala Danjuma, said the road construction, which commenced about eight months ago, has been largely abandoned by the contractors handling the project noting that the delay has resulted in poor access to businesses, excessive dust pollution, and significant economic losses for traders and shop owners.
Murtala Danjuma while commending the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed for its numerous developmental projects including the construction of roads, hospitals, schools, primary healthcare centres, flyovers among others expressed concern over the environmental hazards caused by the stalled project.
According to him, the situation has increased the risk of flooding and environmental degradation due to the contractors’ apparent negligence calling on government to direct the relevant contractors to expedite work on the road to restore normal business activities, improve transportation, and enhance public safety.
He also appealed to residents of the community to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and continue supporting government efforts, stressing that constructive dialogue remains the most effective approach to achieving sustainable community development.
