In an effort to ensure a peaceful 2027 general elections, governments, INEC, security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, parents and other critical stakeholders have been urged to contribute towards a hitch free electioneering campaigns across the country.
A Public Commentator and Lecturer with the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic ATAP Bauchi, Dr Abdullahi Yalwa, made the call on Ina Muka Dosa a Globe FM Hausa audience participatory programme which dwelt on the proliferation and alleged destruction of campaign billboards, erection of temporary campaign offices among others.
Dr Yalwa expressed worry over the rampant use of billboards and posters by politicians in this 21st century, noting that the practice has become unpopular and outdated, calling for a more progressive electioneering activities as seen in advanced democracies.
While calling on Youth to do away with the current practice of protecting the posters and billboards of politicians, the Academic urged parents and other critical stakeholders to monitor the activities of their children and loved to ensure they don’t fall into negative activities.
Yalwa also used the medium to appeal to security agencies particularly the Nigeria Police, DSS and Civil Defence to activate relevant laws by countering all activities that are capable of undermining peace and ensure the protection of public facilities from vandalism.
The Academic commended Governor Bala Mohammed for committing himself to a peaceful campaign and a promise not to use state authority to pursue political opponents, insisting that the Peace Accord must go beyond paper signing to actionable disposition.
Some Callers to the programme, Haruna Badaromo, Engineer Murtala Yali, Musa Noma Jari among others who voiced their concern over the rampant erection of temporary campaign structures, posters and guarding of same by youth, appealed to the government to intervene towards arresting the situation before it degenerates into a public emergency.
