The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Bauchi State Chapter, sensitises vulnerable adolescent girls in Liman Katagum town, Bauchi local government area on menstrual hygiene management.
The girls were also taught on how to take care of themselves during menstrual flow and sew reusable menstrual pads using locally sourced fabric materials.
Addressing the girls, NAWOJ Chairperson, Rashida Yusuf said the training was in collaboration with the Bauchi Field Office of the United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF, commemorating this year’s World Menstrual Hygiene Day, with the theme “Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld”.
Rashida Yusuf urged the girls to ensure strict adherence to menstrual hygiene management during their monthly flows, warning that the condition should not in anyway restrict them attending school.
The Village Head of Liman Katagum, Alhaji Yakubu Abubakar Ghani who assured that the adolescent girls would be closely monitored to ensure the utilisation of the knowledge gained, commended NAWOJ and the UNICEF, Bauchi Field Office for conducting the sensitisation in his domain.
Some of the adolescent girls who spoke to Radio Nigeria, commended NAWOJ for the training and assured to utilise the knowledge garnered.
