Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has declared Monday, 17th August, 2026, a work-free day to enable workers participate fully in the forthcoming local government elections across the state statewide.
This is contained in a statement signed by Special Adviser to Governor Bala Mohammed on Media Publicity Comrade Muktar Gidado and made available to journalists in Bauchi.
The declaration covers civil and public servants at local government, state and federal levels, as well as bank employees working in the state while workers providing essential services are exempted from the work-free arrangement.
The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission fixed August 17 for elections into local government councils, prompting the government to provide eligible workers an opportunity to vote without official duties today.
The statement urged all eligible residents to exercise their franchise peacefully and responsibly, in accordance with applicable electoral law.
It also assured residents that security agencies and electoral officials would collaborate to maintain a peaceful and orderly environment, while citizens were urged to cooperate throughout the electoral process accordingly.
The Statement therefore called on citizens and residents to participate peacefully in the elections, urging voters to conduct themselves responsibly before, during and after voting throughout.
