The Emir of Katagum Dr Umar Faruk the second has charged Education Authorities and School Managers to strengthen monitoring and supervision mechanisms towards addressing the recurring cases of absenteeism and laxity among teachers.
Dr Umar Faruk gave the charge at the opening of a 5-day training for 200 teachers and School Managers from Bauchi North organised by the Northeast Development Commission NEDC through Project 19 Consultants Limited in collaboration with Bauchi State government at Azare.
Represented by Sintalin Katagum Engineer Magaji Dahuwa, the Emir said teachers have adopted the habit of laxity and truancy, thereby making the quality of educational delivery poor, hence the need for authorities concerned to sanction erring teachers to serve as deterrent.
“I want to appreciate the NEDC for organising such training because it is key to achieving better education, I will like to advise teachers to remain upright so as to apply all the methodologies in imparting the right knowledge on the children. Teachers must desist from acts of laxity in their assigned duties, build their capacity on guidance and counselling to be able to groom the younger generation for future leadership roles”, the Emir highlights.
Dr Umar Faruk who emphasised the me5ed to concentrate more on skills training among children to make them self reliant, appreciated NEDC for salvaging the education sector in the subregion.
The Bauchi State Coordinator of the NEDC, Malam Aliyu Isyaku acknowledged the effort of the commission’s management in eradicating poverty across communities, and encouraged the participants to utilise the opportunity to develop their capacity.
“May I expressed gratitude to the management of NEDC for its effort in eradicating all forms of poverty across communities in the subregion, and for the participants to utilise all knowledge acquired especially in the area of STEMA”, he appreciates.
On his part, the Executive Chairman SUBEB Alhaji Adamu Duguri represented by the Director School Services Malam Zuhairu Usman attributed the problem of laxity among teachers to dishonesty and appealed to organisations to embrace such initiative by the NEDC to improve the education sector.
In a goodwill message, the Provost Aminu Saleh College of Education Azare Professor Sadiya Asabe Mohammed represented by the Librarian Malam Ali Nasir welcomed all the participants to the training and wished them a successful deliberations.
Speaking on behalf of other Resource Persons Professor Auwal Abdulhamid who thanked the commission for coming to rescue of communities in the subregion especially in the area of education, charged the teachers to always update their knowledge to stay relevant.
