The Nigeria Union of Journalists Bauchi State Council has directed its members to suspend covering all activities of the Nigeria police force in the state with immediate effect over assault, molestation and harrassmemt of AIT reporter Damina Yusuf.
A statement jointly signed by the council’s chairman comrade Umar Saidu and his secretary Isah Garba Gadau express dismay over barbaric way personnel of the Nigeria police are adopting in treating against Journalists while discharge their duties.
The statement explains that the police in the state who claimed to be partners in progress with Journalists, seized camera, laptop computer, microphone, mobile phones, wallet containing substantial amount of money among other belongings from the AIT reporter Damina Yusuf.
The union condemns in a strong terms the negative action of the police command that injured Damina Yusuf while covering students protest at the state college of Agriculture Yelwa who was later admitted at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital Bauchi for treatment.
The statement commended the Management taking the injured reporter to hospital for treatment.
This is the fifth time in the last one year the police brutalized Journalists in the state.
