University Don advocates deployment of Emotional Intelligence to solve Power(energy) problems in the country.

-

A Professor of Mechanical Engineering Adisa Ademola Bello has advocated the deployment of Emotional Intelligence in summounting the problem of epileptic power supply and harnessing renewable energy in Nigeria

Professor Adisa Bello who lectures at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University ATBU Bauchi made the call at the institution’s forty fifth inaugural lecture series held at Yelwa campus in Bauchi.

In a lecture titled; “Deploying Renewable Energy strategies for Decarbonisation of Nigeria’s energy mix for Emotional Intelligence”, Professor Adisa said people must be patriotic enough and take ownership of all critical national assets to ensure rapid development.

“I advocated for emotional intelligence, let people feel for others such that if they know they are suppose to work amd they refuse to work, they are going to miss something. All the people close to them are going to also miss but if they imbibe it, feel for each other, have empathy to each other, the likelihood is that whatever job they are doing-they would do it so well for the betterment of themselves and others, he said”

He said Nigeria which ranks seventh in global population, and despatches about five thousand megawatts of electricity to the national grid for distribution, must diversify it sources of energy to boost trade, grow the economy and ensure access by all.

The Professor of Mechanical Engineering disclosed that the country need about sixty three thousand megawatts of electricity by 2030 due to growing population, hence the need for places like Jos, Kano, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Lagos and Enugu to work towards harnessing Wind energy due to its viability in the areas.

“We need to deploy strategies such that everyone of us from those that live in the city to those that live in the rural area are satisfied with energy production for household, for industry and for transportation, he added”

While lamenting that households presently consume over fifty percent of electricity supplied leaving industries with dismal low access to boost production, Professor Adisa identified land and access to affordable energy services as factors hindering efforts to harness renewable energy.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor ATBU Bauchi Professor Muhammadu Ahmad Abdulazeez who read the Citation of Professor Adisa said with forty journal papers, twenty-five conferences and fourteen public lectures, the country stands to gain alot from his vast knowledge in the energy sector.

“Presently we have energy crisis amd mostly when you find that we can stay for many hours without light, when you’re talking about light-we are talking about development and if there is no light, there is no development and what we are saying is this country is blessed with solar energy and apart from solar- we have wind and geothermal, so we can utilize this and instead of trying to concentrate on the national grid, we can have substations, he argued”

In a vote of thanks, the Chairman Organising Committee and Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics Professor Ibrahim Muhammad expressed gratitude to the management of ATBU for its effort towards the success of the event and the guest lecturer for his contribution to the development of the institution
