UN Women begins evaluation of its Women, Peace and Security project implementation in Bauchi State.

UN Women has expressed satisfaction with the level of Implementation of the Women, Peace and Security WPS project by stakeholders, partners and beneficiaries in Bauchi State.

A representative of the UN Women programme in Nigeria Mr Peter Mancha stated this at the Programme Close Out Review meeting with WPS partners in Bauchi.

Peter Mancha said presentation of project results, challenges, lessons learnt and recommendations by stakeholders was a clear indication that successes were recorded in the implementation so far.

He highlighted some of the challenges encountered in the Programme implementation to include stakeholders engagement in trainings, difficulty in getting legislators to commit, and bureaucratic bottle kneck in engaging the Military.

Also Speaking, the Project Manager Partners West Africa Nigeria PWAN and programme partner UN WPS project Tolu Ojeshina said their organisation which is working to improve capacity of Security agencies and Judiciary on Gender representation and participation, successfully trained 51 officers from the FCT, Benue and Bauchi states.

Tolu Ojeshina recommended the mainstreaming of gender issues into the Nigerian Law School curriculum and the Criminal justice framework to strengthen the country’s Correctional Service and Gender desks.

In Separate contributions, representatives of the Judiciary, Police, Army, Women Mediators Network, HeforShe Network, Students Peace Club and Ministry of Women Affairs identified financial and logistics constraints, lack of commitment from members as some of the challenges hindering smooth implementation of the project.

About thirty participants from various MDAs, CSOs, media, Security among others attended the Close Out Review meeting.
