Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board warns school managers against declaring public holidays without government approval.

-

Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB has expressed displeasure over the declaration of public holiday by some school managers without prior approval by government.

The Executive Chairman of the board Dr Abubakar Surunbai Sheikh Dahiru made his feelings known while inspecting the level of schools resumption in Tafawa Balewa local government area.

Dr Abubakar Surunbai represented by a Quality Assurance staff of the board Mrs Comfort Bindi said some school managers declared twenty nineth May as public holiday to celebrate democracy day instead of june twelve, hence the need for more awareness to avoid future occurrence.

“Friday twenty nineth was Saturday so people were assuming that today monday would be the democracy day, there was going to be a public holiday and its not like that. Awareness must be created, the teachers, the LEAs, the education secretaries must make sure that their EOs know that 29th is no longer a public holiday, he said”

He warned school managers against taking decisions that affects academic activities without approval or circular from relevant authorities.

The Executive Chairman charged parents to always seek clarification on issues to avoid confusion and monitor academic activities of their wards.

Dr Surunbai further called on Government to recruit additional teachers to bridge the gap between teacher-students ratio and ensure their training and retraining for the development of education in the state.

On the level of dilapidated structures, the Executive Chairman promised to ensure more schools are captured in the UBEC/SUBEB action plan.

Schools visited during the inspection exercise included Burgel Gabas Primary and Junior Secondary School, Zwall Primary and Junior Secondary School, as well as Mingil and Kutaru Primary schools all in Tafawa Balewa local government area.

All Public and some private schools across the state resumed third term academic activities on the twenty fourth of May after one week short break.
