INEC: Bauchi Gets Additional PUs

-

Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has outlined one thousand three hundred and forty nine Voting Points to be converted to full pledged Polling Units across Bauchi state.

This is in addition to the four thousand and seventy four already existing Polling Units in the state.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi stated this during a Stakeholders meeting held at the commisson’s headquarters in Bauchi..

Alhaji Abdullahi who said the figure was outlined and recommended for the approval of the INEC national headquarters and was reached after careful and rigorous work carried out by the commisson’s Electoral Officers in the twenty local government areas of the state.

He explained that the out of thirteen thousand, one hundred and forty nine Voting Points across the state, one thousand three hundred and forty nine were recommended for conversion.

The move, according to him, would provide the opportunity for more Nigerians to easily exercise their franchise as well as address voter apathy during elections.

In an interview with Radio Nigeria the State Chairman of Labour Party Barrister Hussaini Saraki said the idea of creating the new polling units was a welcome development, in view of the fact that many people especially those in remote areas trek a very long distance before casting their votes.

The State Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service NIS Bappa Idris who identified participation of foreigners in the country’s election process, expressed readiness to partner INEC in tackling the problem.

The meeting had in attendance representatives of the Emir of Bauchi, political parties, security agencies, religious leaders, relevant MDAs, the media, persons with special needs, women groups, Non Governmental Organizations, Civil Society Organisations among others.
