Over 7,000 Health Workers in Bauchi Trained on RMNCH by USAID/IHP

-

United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded Integrated Health Program (IHP) has trained over seven thousand health personnel on child health, maternal, newborn health and family planning, from public healthcare facilities in Bauchi state.

This is part of commitment to strengthen the capacity of health workers and to complement the federal and state governments’ effort of achieving one main PHC per ward.

The State Director, IHP, Dr Siaaka Alhassan made this known at Misau local government area of Bauchi state, during a two-day training organised for Journalists on Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child Health plus Nutrition and Malaria (RMNCH+NM).

The trainees, drawn from fourteen out of the twenty local government areas of the state, were trained from September 2020 to March 2021 under the project’s On The Job Training initiative.

Dr Alhassan, said the rationale behind the On The Job Training model was to give all health personnel in the state, the opportunity to be trained at their places of work without necessarily taking them out of their places of primary assignment.

According to him, the On The Job Training model was proven to be more effective and efficient among different methods of training for health workers, in view of the fact that it is practical based.

He expressed the programme’s commitment to scale up the training to the remaining six local government areas as well as forty health workers from some selected private health facilities for effective and efficient healthcare service delivery in the state.

The State Director IHP, commended the state government for the show of commitment through the release of N330 million naira as counterpart contribution into the State Primary Healthcare Basket Fund, of which USAID, UNICEF, Aliko Dangote Foundation, ADF, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, BMGF, among other partners were signitaries.

Dr Alhassan also expressed USAID funded IHP’s committed to ensure supportive supervision of the trained health personnel to maintain standard healthcare services being rendered to the people especially the indigent and vulnerable.
